LifeWave X39 Patch Placement: Where to Put It (CV6 or GV14) and How to Rotate

A practical X39 placement guide: the two main points (CV6 and GV14), how to find them step by step, the morning routine and 12-hour wear time, upper-arm rotation, and the mistakes behind most placement problems.

Applying X39 to clean, dry skin: one patch at a time, on CV6 or GV14, then rotate sites as this guide describes.

The LifeWave X39 patch goes on one of two everyday points: CV6, on the lower abdomen about two finger-widths below the navel, or GV14, in the hollow at the base of the back of the neck. You wear one patch at a time for up to 12 hours, then leave 12 hours off. This guide shows how to find each point, which one to choose, when to apply the patch and how to rotate sites without irritating your skin.

X39 is a non-transdermal phototherapy patch: it is sealed, worn on the outside of clean, dry, undamaged skin, and nothing in it is designed to enter the body. The points come from acupuncture and acupressure tradition and serve as a consistent routine convention, not a medical prescription. X39 is also a single-patch product, so landing near the point is acceptable and daily consistency matters more than millimetre precision.

Use this page together with the Body Map on this site, which shows CV6 and the upper-arm rotation sites on a visual model. The sections below also link to the full placement chart, the combination guide and the safety guide.

Key takeaways

  • The LifeWave X39 patch is placed on CV6 (about two finger-widths below the navel) or GV14 (the hollow at the base of the back of the neck), one patch at a time, for up to 12 hours a day.
  • In the X39 placement protocol on this site, CV6 is the primary point; GV14 is the commonly used second point, and the outer upper arm (left or right) is a rotation site for days when the abdomen or neck needs a rest.
  • X39 is a single-patch product, so placement near the point is considered acceptable — consistency matters more than millimetre precision — but the patch still belongs on a listed point, on clean, dry, undamaged skin.
  • Morning application is the common X39 routine: wear the patch for up to 12 hours, remove and discard it, then leave 12 hours off; never wear two X39 patches at once.
  • When X39 is worn with X49, each patch needs its own site — for example X39 on GV14 and X49 on GB34 — because the two should never share one point.
  • X39 is not recommended during pregnancy or while nursing; ask a doctor first if you have active cancer, take blood thinners or have an implanted electronic device near the placement area, and remove the patch before an MRI.

CV6 or GV14: which X39 point should you choose?

Both points are commonly used for X39, and either one is a reasonable place to start. CV6 (Conception Vessel 6) is the primary point in the X39 placement protocol: it sits on the midline of the lower abdomen and is easy to reach, to see and to keep flat under clothing. GV14 (Governing Vessel 14) sits at the base of the back of the neck, where many users apply X39 in the morning as part of a daytime routine.

A simple way to decide: start with CV6 if you want the protocol default and an easy, visible spot. Choose GV14 when CV6 is already taken by another patch such as Glutathione, when the abdominal skin needs a rest, or when you prefer a daytime-routine habit at the neck. Use only one point per day.

X39 points at a glance
PointWhere it isTypical use
CV6Lower abdomen on the midline, about two finger-widths (1.5 cun) below the navelPrimary point in the X39 protocol; easy to see and reach
GV14Hollow at the base of the back of the neck, just below the prominent vertebraCommon second point; keeps CV6 free for another patch
Upper arm (left or right)Outer upper armRotation site when the abdomen or neck needs a rest; alternate sides
  • Default: CV6.
  • CV6 already used by another patch: choose GV14.
  • Skin irritated at either point: switch to the other point or to an upper arm.

How to find CV6 and GV14 step by step

To find CV6, stand or lie down relaxed and locate the centre of the navel. Place two fingers side by side directly below it, along the midline. The point sits at the lower edge of the second finger, about 1.5 cun below the navel. Centre the patch over that spot and keep it on the midline rather than drifting to one side.

To find GV14, tilt your head forward and run a finger down the back of your neck until you feel the most prominent bump at the base, the seventh cervical vertebra. GV14 is the small hollow directly below it, on the midline of the spine. It is hard to reach on your own, so use a mirror or ask someone to apply the patch.

The Body Map shows CV6 and the upper-arm rotation sites; GV14 is described in the full placement guide linked above.

  • CV6: two fingers below the navel, on the midline.
  • GV14: the hollow directly below the prominent vertebra at the base of the neck.
  • Centre the patch over the point and press it flat.

Can you put X39 on the arm?

Yes, as a rotation site. The X39 protocol allows either upper arm when you want to rest the abdomen: choose the outer upper arm and alternate left and right so the same patch of skin is not used on consecutive days. The arm is a place to move to on a different day, not a second patch worn at the same time.

Rotation is mainly about skin comfort. The adhesive sits on the same skin for up to 12 hours, so moving between CV6, GV14 and the arms keeps any one area from being covered every day.

  • Either upper arm; alternate left and right.
  • One patch at a time, always.
  • Rotate away from any skin that looks red or feels sore.

X39 morning or evening, and how long to wear it

Morning is the common choice. The protocol notes describe daily use as 12 hours on and 12 hours off, with morning application typical, so the 12-hour window ends in the evening and the skin rests overnight. Apply the patch to clean, dry skin free of oils and lotions so the hypoallergenic adhesive bonds well.

Wear it for up to 12 hours, then remove and discard it. Do not cut, reuse or re-stick a patch; apply a fresh one each day. Drinking about two litres of water a day is the habit company protocols pair with every patch.

Avoid starting X39 in the evening: it is a morning patch, and Silent Nights is the patch designed for bedtime and overnight use.

  • Apply in the morning to clean, dry skin.
  • Up to 12 hours on, then 12 hours off.
  • One fresh patch per day; never cut, reuse or re-stick.
  • About two litres of water a day.

Rotation and skin care: a simple X39 rotation schedule

A rotation does not need to be complicated. The aim is that the same patch of skin is not covered two days in a row, so cycle through CV6, GV14 and an upper arm, keeping CV6 free on days when another patch is using it. Whatever pattern you choose, change one thing at a time so you can tell what is happening with your skin and your routine.

Skin comes first. Never apply X39 over rashes, broken, irritated or sensitive skin, and rotate away from any area that looks red or feels sore. If a patch comes off or lifts during the day, replace it with a fresh one rather than trying to re-stick it.

  • Example cycle: CV6 on day one, GV14 on day two, right upper arm on day three, then repeat with the left upper arm.
  • Rotate away from red, sore or irritated skin.
  • Replace a patch that lifts with a fresh one; do not re-stick it.

Five common X39 placement mistakes

Most X39 placement problems come from a short list of habits that are easy to fix.

  • Wearing two X39 patches at once: the routine is one patch at a time.
  • Skipping the 12-hour break: leaving a patch on for a day or more instead of removing it after up to 12 hours.
  • Applying to oily, damp or lotioned skin, so the patch lifts and has to be discarded.
  • Changing the point, the time and other habits all at once, which makes it impossible to tell what is working.
  • Putting X39 on irritated skin, or on the same point as another patch such as X49.

X39 with X49: give each patch its own point

X39 and X49 are often paired, and the protocol is explicit about one rule: each patch still needs its own clean placement site. A shared point is not an option, and neither is a second patch of the same product.

The commonly used points keep them apart. X39 goes on GV14 or CV6; X49 goes on GB34 (the outer side of the leg just below the knee) or CV6. If you want CV6 for one of them, give the other GV14 or GB34. A simple pairing is X39 at GV14 and X49 at GB34.

The X39 + X49 bundle exists for exactly this pairing. The combination guide covers weekly schedules and how to add patches gradually.

  • X39: CV6 or GV14.
  • X49: GB34 or CV6.
  • If one patch takes CV6, the other takes GV14 or GB34.

Safety: who should ask a doctor before using X39

X39 is a general wellness product, not a medical treatment, and a few groups should talk to a qualified healthcare professional before using it. X39 is not recommended during pregnancy or while nursing. Ask first if you have an active cancer diagnosis, take blood thinners, or have an implanted electronic device near the placement area.

Remove the patch before an MRI. Do not apply it to broken or irritated skin, and stop using it and speak to a doctor if you notice a reaction that is severe, persistent or getting worse. Placement is a routine detail, not a medical decision: new, severe or persistent symptoms need a clinician, not a different point.

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or while nursing.
  • Ask a doctor first: active cancer, blood thinners, or an implanted electronic device near the placement area.
  • Remove before an MRI; do not cut patches.
  • Stop and seek advice for severe, persistent or worsening reactions.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you place the LifeWave X39 patch?

Place one X39 patch on CV6, on the lower abdomen about two finger-widths below the navel, or on GV14, in the hollow at the base of the back of the neck. CV6 is the primary point in the X39 protocol and GV14 is the commonly used second point. Apply it to clean, dry, undamaged skin and wear it for up to 12 hours.

Does X39 placement matter, or can I put it anywhere?

Placement near a listed point is considered acceptable, and consistency matters more than millimetre precision, because X39 is a single-patch product. It should still go on a listed point — CV6, GV14 or, as a rotation site, the outer upper arm — rather than anywhere on the body, and never on irritated or broken skin.

Which is better for X39: CV6 or GV14?

Neither is required. CV6 is the primary point in the X39 protocol and is easy to reach; GV14 is a common second point that keeps CV6 free for another patch. Start with one, keep your other habits stable for two to four weeks, and change only one thing at a time.

How long until I notice anything with X39?

Experiences vary and results are not guaranteed. The usual advice is to give a routine two to four weeks with one patch and one point, track sleep, comfort, energy and skin response, and change only one thing at a time. Persistent or worsening symptoms need a healthcare professional, not a different point.

Can I wear X39 overnight?

Not recommended. X39 is applied in the morning and worn for up to 12 hours, followed by 12 hours off, so it comes off before bedtime. Silent Nights is the patch designed for overnight use: it goes on 30–60 minutes before bed and comes off in the morning.

Where should I not place X39?

Do not place X39 on broken, irritated, rashy or sensitive skin, on the same point as another patch, or near an implanted electronic device without asking your doctor first. Do not use it during pregnancy or while nursing, and remove it before an MRI. Rotate away from any spot that looks red or feels sore.
